Alternative · Paprika
A Paprika alternative.
Samla is a recipe app that runs in the browser: save a recipe, plan the week, and get a shopping list sorted by aisle. This page puts Samla next to Paprika Recipe Manager. What they cost, what they do, and where Paprika is still the better buy. Everything about Paprika was read off their own page on 2026-09-16.
25 kr / month
Or 20 kr a month billed yearly. A free plan that keeps working, with no card.
~$5 once, per platform

Honestly
Which of them is yours?
When Paprika is the better buy
You would rather own the app than subscribe. Paprika is paid for once and keeps working; Samla is a monthly cost for as long as you are on premium.
You want an icon on your home screen today. Paprika is on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Samla runs in the browser. The apps are in development, and that is the row Samla loses in the table above.
You cook alone. Paprika's sync keeps your own devices in step, and most of what Samla adds on top of that is something you do not need.
When Samla is
There is more than one of you in the kitchen. A household sees one recipe library, one week and one shopping list, each person on their own account rather than a shared login.
You want to try first. Samla's free plan keeps working instead of running out, and Paprika is paid for up front, before you know whether you like it.
The page you want to save has no structured recipe on it. Samla can import it from the page or a photo of a cookbook. Paprika publishes neither.
Questions
Questions about Paprika and Samla
- Can I move my recipes from Paprika to Samla?
- Not automatically. Paprika exports to its own format and Samla has no importer for it. What works today is saving the recipe again from its original link, or photographing the page and importing the photo. If you have a large collection, write to support@samlarecept.se first.
- Which is cheaper in the long run?
- Paprika, if you cook alone on one platform: one purchase and then nothing. Samla is monthly, and only comes out ahead once there are several of you. A household is one subscription, not one per person.
- Does Samla work offline?
- No. Samla needs a connection to save a change, and a change made with no network fails immediately rather than queueing. We would rather say so than pretend it went through. Paprika is built to work offline and does it better.
- Is Samla available in Swedish?
- Yes. Samla is written in Swedish first and also comes in English. Paprika does not state on its own page whether it has a Swedish version, so the table above leaves that cell empty rather than guessing.
