How to Save a TikTok Recipe Before It Disappears

Samla2 min read

Turn a TikTok cooking video into a usable recipe with ingredients, steps and a shopping list, without replaying the same fifteen seconds all evening.

Your saved folder is where recipes go missing

You see a good dinner, tap Save and promise yourself you will make it. By Friday the video is somewhere between a restaurant recommendation and a dog wearing boots. Even when you find it, the quantities are in the caption and the oven temperature was mentioned once in the voice-over.

A video can be the source of a recipe. It is rarely the best format to cook from.

Paste a TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or recipe-page link into Samla. You will get a draft with a title, servings, ingredients and steps that you can check before it joins your collection.

Do it while the video is still open. Samla keeps the original link with the recipe, so the creator's technique is one tap away when you need it. The same works for recipe sites and photos of a cookbook: here is how to save recipes from everywhere you find them.

Check these three things before saving

Before you trust any imported recipe, confirm:

  • the oven temperature or pan heat
  • the ingredient quantities, especially salt, raising agents and liquids
  • the visual cue for doneness, not only the stated time

If one is missing, add it to the draft. It takes half a minute now and saves you from searching with a hot pan on the stove.

Use collection names you will remember

“Quick dinners,” “Weekend baking” and “Want to try” are perfectly good collection names. Name things the way you think about them when you are hungry.

If you know when you want to cook it, put it on the meal plan now. Otherwise, leave it somewhere you will actually look again.

Keep the source attached

The source belongs with the recipe. Keep the link, go back for visual technique and credit the creator if you share what you made.
